Gift Guide: For Book Lovers

It's (almost) the most wonderful time of the year! I am a firm believer in Thanksgiving as gateway to the holiday season. In keeping with the beloved traditions of my childhood, I try to avoid most things overtly Christmasy until the day after Thanksgiving (well, actually, until the drive home from Thanksgiving dinner. That's when I unapologetically blast Christmas music for the first time all season and don't stop until December 26th). The anticipation just makes the Christmas season that much more magical!

HOWEVER! I do make one exception: for Christmas shopping (and, thus, for gift guides). The deals on Black Friday and Cyber Saturday and all the other discount days that fall hot on the heels of Thanksgiving are just too good to miss.

So in that spirit, here's the first of a few gift guides I have up my sleeve this season: gifts for book lovers! Here are 10 ideas for the book lovers in your life (or, you know, yourself...) at a range of prices.

Is there anything better than snuggling up on the couch with a mug of something hot and tasty and a delicious book to devour? There IS -- snuggling up on the couch with a mug with a tartan monogram...

...and filling that mug with steaming hot chocolate! I love the classic mix from Williams-Sonoma, but they also have a ton of additional festive flavors like peppermint, mocha, and salted caramel. Your favorite book lover with a sweet tooth will thank you all winter for this gift.

A bit of a twofer with the hot chocolate mix, these adorable marshmallow snowmen will tell a story all their own as they melt in your mug.

This is one of my favorite scented candles that I only bring out at Christmastime. If you know someone who loves to light a candle when s/he reads, try this one!

Your favorite book lover can create a cozy indoor reading nook wonderland with these bistro string lights.

I love the subtlety of these literary scarves -- wrap yourself up in the text of your favorite book, and look cute doing it! Choose from excerpts from Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Alice in Wonderland, or Jane Eyre.

If you love the tactile qualities of a physical book vs. an e-reader, or if you want to start collecting special books, then check out Barnes & Noble's collectibles collections. My husband and I started gifting each other one of these each year for Christmas years ago, and it's one of our favorite traditions! These are really beautiful leather-bound books (for people who have rooms full of mahogany, of course) for a shockingly reasonable price.

I saw these decorative birdhouses made from books at a gift shop in Chatham a few years ago and was instantly smitten. They're totally not useful, which is why I've never pulled the trigger and purchased one for myself, but I've almost done so more times than I can count (including today, when making this gift guide). Side note: is it weird that the most expensive item on this list is also the least practical?

If you know a book lover, I have a hunch s/he might be a writing lover as well. Who wouldn't love to jot down her thoughts in these beautiful notebooks?

What's your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
