Friday Favorites, Volume 5

Happy Friday! Here's what I'm loving this week:

Reading: I just started The Nightingale, and honestly I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It's gotten amazing reviews on Amazon/Goodreads/etc., but about 40 pages in I don't know if I love the writing. There's a lot of description, which I feel almost guilty for disliking. If you've read it and have an opinion either way, let me know!

Thinking: I was laughing out loud at my desk as I read this McSweeney's piece, "If Bostonians Loved Other Local Institutions The Way They Love Their Local Sports Franchises." So spot on. Ah, Boston, how I love you.

Anticipating: Anticipating/dreading my first 10K (the Canton Fall Classic) this weekend. When I signed up back in August, October 29th seemed really far away....At least I have someone to share in the misery, cuz I signed my husband up too! Sucker!

Making: I've been a longtime fan of Jessica Merchant's food blog How Sweet Eats, and this past weekend I made this amazing salad for my sister's baby shower. It was a huge hit! Jessica astutely points out in her blog post that this is a "semi high-maintenance" salad because it requires roasting two different types of nuts, but I promise...it's worth it.

Playing: I'm dressing up for Halloween for only the second time since graduating from college tomorrow night. I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to Halloween itself this Tuesday, when I'll be able to hand out candy to adorable children in my neighborhood on my stoop. If I'm arguably more excited about handing out candy than dressing up and going to a party myself, does that make me an old person? Food for thought.

Have a great weekend!
