30 Books in 30 Beach Days Day 25: "Twenty Poems to Bless Your Marriage and One to Save It"

On this beautiful summer day, you'll forgive me for an incredibly cheesy (but incredibly appropriate!) inclusion in this series. I got married in June, and a few months before the wedding my mom gifted me what has become my ultimate coffee table book (literally; it lives inside my coffee table). Roger Housden's compilation of love poems, Twenty Poems to Bless Your Marriage: And One to Save It is a beautiful, lighthearted, and quick (i.e., take it to the beach!) collection appropriate for anyone entering marriage or writing her own love story.

The poems in the collection range from Shakespeare to William Carlos Williams to Rainer Maria Rilke to, even, a snippet from a Leonard Cohen classic, and each articulates a breathless, or sentimental, or beautifully quotidian aspect of love.

This is not a book solely for newlyweds; it's a book for anyone who loves love. Thanks, Mom!
